Fou Gallery and tea art artisan Mai Tian would like to invite you to attend our literati gathering and tea ceremony. Participants will view Fou Gallery's current exhibition Wei Jia: A Way of Life, appreciate Da Hong Pao (or Grand Scarlet Rock), a special rock Oolong tea grown in the Wuyi Mountains, and artisan tea utensils by Lv Xiliang and Renqian Yang.

Tea Artisan

In 2011, Mai Tian started her journey in Chinese traditional tea ceremony and further studied in Hejing Tea Garden (Beijing) and Taiwan Dongwu University (Taipei). She received the certificate of Senior Tea Artisan and Advanced Tea Appraiser. Currently, she is researching and practicing Tang Dynasty Tea Culture.

Tea and Tea Utensil

At this tea ceremony, Mai Tian will present 3 years aged Da Hong Pao Rock Oolong Tea. Da Hong Pao, translated as either “Grand Scarlet Robe,” is one of the most famous types of Chinese tea. Da Hong Pao is a variety of the Camellia sinensis tea plant that grows in the Wuyi mountains in northern Fujian.According to the legends, these were naturally occurring bushes, growing wild among the rocky cliffs and outcrops. High quality examples have a full bodied, toasty flavor with complex flavor notes underneath.

At first stage, Mai will use the brewing technique with traditional teapot to reveal the fragrance of the tea leaves; At the second stage, she will use the special white clay pot method to boil the tea directly.

 
否画廊和茶人麦田盛情邀请您参加我们的雅集和茶会，活动参加者将欣赏画廊目前的展览《韦佳：寻常》，并与麦田一起品茶和鉴赏吕锡良和杨人倩创作的茶器和花器。否画廊目前正在举办的展览《韦佳：寻常》呈现艺术家韦佳的新作，和日常生活所作所为。雅集是中国传统文人的特别交流方式，在相对较小规模的私人聚会上，文人一起宴游、品茗、饮酒、弹琴、下棋、赋诗和畅谈，交流思想。这次茶会希冀在品茶中一起交流书法和日常，把艺术和生活连接在一起。

本次茶会上，茶艺师麦田将带来三年陈大红袍的茶砖煮茶。大红袍是武夷岩茶的典型代表，在岩茶中最为出众，十泡有余香，岩韵明显。本次茶会所用茶为天星村三年陈金奖大红袍压制成的茶砖，香气滋味醇厚，茶汤甘滑，微有果酸，尤其是杯底香药香、木香花果香浓郁。

此次茶会茶人麦田将采用壶泡方式为第一阶段向茶友展示其老茶的初阶表现力；再采用白泥壶煮泡方式展现大红袍茶砖在壶中沸水煮泡表现出老茶独有的后劲。

茶人麦田

高级茶艺师，中级评茶师。自2011年至今学习中华传统茶文化.分别在北京和静茶园，台湾东吴大学研习传统中华茶道，随后考取高级茶艺师，并且获得中级评茶师称号。在学习中国传统茶之余赴日本京都，韩国首尔交流他国茶道文化.目前潜心钻研“大唐茶文化”。

About the Exhibition: Wei Jia: A Way of Life is on view from October 13, 2018 to December 23, 2018. An ordinary person, living an ordinary life in his ordinary attitude and doing ordinary things, Wei loves traditional Chinese art but does not follow conventional rules. He interprets the tradition in his own way and gives it a broader meaning. This exhibition presents his daily work in Brooklyn, New York in recent years, including Xuan paper (rice paper) collages on large­-scale canvases, works on paper, hand scrolls, calligraphy albums, small manuscripts, and a site-specific installation. This exhibition showcases Wei’s complete creative process and his creative state to explore the connection between art making and daily life. Wei began to learn Chinese poetry and landscape painting with the renowned collector Zhang Boju and his wife Pan Su at an early age, which deeply influenced his entire life. Later, he studied oil painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. In 1985, he went to the United States to obtain a MFA. After 1993, he settled down in Brooklyn, New York. He uses Xuan paper as primary medium, mixing ink, gouache, acrylic and other pigments on it. He writes calligraphy, then tears off the paper, reorganizes the pieces, and repeats the process to make collages. In such a process of accidental changes and inevitable forces, his life experience and artistic experience are integrated into visual images.

展览简介：否画廊于2018年10月13日至12月23日呈现新展《韦佳：寻常》。寻常人，寻常生活，以寻常态度，做寻常事。韦佳热爱中国传统艺术，而不循规蹈矩，却以自己的方式诠释拓展传统，赋予更广的意义。本次展览呈现他长居纽约布鲁克林的日常所做所为，近年来创作的大幅画布上宣纸拼贴绘画，纸上作品，手卷，书法册页，小幅手稿，以及根据空间的现场创作。本次展览希望呈现艺术家完整的创作过程，创作状态，及作品和日常生活的关联。韦佳自幼跟随收藏家张伯驹及夫人潘素学习中国诗词和山水画，影响其一生。而后又在中央美术学院学习油画，80年代末赴美取得艺术硕士学位，1993年后长居于纽约布鲁克林。他用宣纸为主要创作媒介，混合水墨、水粉、丙烯等颜料在其上书写、挥洒，再将纸撕下，重新拼贴，反反复复的撕与贴，在偶然与必然创作过程里，把他的生活经历，和艺术经历融于画面之中。
