This year the 13th exhibition will exhibit 73 selected works from 21 nations and regions out of 374 entries from 40 nations and regions. This year’s panels included Atsushi Takeda, who is an art critic and the Visiting Professor at Tama Art University, pottery artist and the Former President of Kanazawa College of Art Kenji Kuze, glass artist Etsuko Nishi, glass artist and the chairperson of Japan Glass Artcrafts Association Jun Fujita, American glass artist William Douglas Carlson and Bodil Busk Laursen who is the glass art critic, the chairperson of Hempel Glass Museum and former director of Design museum Denmark. The exhibition has been a world showcase of contemporary glass art and it has helped maximize the potential of this attractive material, glass.
The Echo from the Highland series I and series II derived from the experiences Meng Du had with collecting rocks from the Highland park. Meng Du collected a rock every month, as a documentary of time. In Echo from the Highland series I, she cast the original look of the rock, the mirror and the imaginative forms into glass sculptures. In Echo from the Highland series II, she made twelve partially polished glass containers, inside of which are merely empty spaces imitating the shape of rocks. The small window on top of the container enables the viewer to look through. Although what's inside looks like a real rock, it 's actually empty shape made with silver leaf. When the works were completed, Meng Du sent them back to the nature to continue their jobs.
