Tao Xian
b. 1991, Anhui, China
Tao Xian earned her B.F.A. from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2013 and her M.F.A. from Parsons School of Design in 2016. Her work has been exhibited internationally across Asia and North America, including solo exhibitions at Soul Art Center (Beijing, 2025), Enclave Contemporary (Shenzhen, 2023), L·AN Gallery (Shenzhen, 2022), Asian Art Platform (Singapore, 2019), and Fukiage Museum of Art (Okayama, 2016). Tao is a recipient of the CAAC Full Scholarship and the Parsons Dean’s Scholarship. She currently lives and works in Shanghai.
Tao Xian’s creative practice centers on the symbiotic states of living organisms, using desire and vitality as conceptual anchors. Through a visual language that balances ambiguous blurring with digital-like precision, she constructs inner landscapes that explore the spiritual dimensions of the unknown. Her compositions achieve a unique synesthesia, where layered metaphors are conveyed through the deliberate contrast of color, structure, and brushwork. Tao’s oeuvre is often described as a "metaphysical landscape"—a dynamic beauty nestled within silence that depicts the planes of a parallel world. She enters these planes through a state of lucid meditation, faithfully translating her internal visions into the realm of painting.
