The Line that Divides Us, is the Line that Connects Us.

Let’s Build a Wall that Unites Us, rather than Separates Us.

New York - Fou Gallery sincerely invite you to visit us to join our New Year Wishing Day on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021!

Looking back at the turbulence in 2020, we panicked during the epidemic, reflected on our inner world in isolation, protested on the street, and expressed our opinions on the Internet. We’ve gradually adapted to the current situation of the global epidemic, and also ponder on the future of mankind. For a lot of us, our frequent international travels have been replaced by a monotonous route between our home and the grocery store. Pi Ji Tai Lai (Out of the Depth of Misfortune Comes Bliss) is a collective wish from all the artists and staff of Fou Gallery to our community and the world. We hope that everyone can obtain some refreshing perspectives on their lives from the world of art and set a New Year Goal to look forward to the future.

Saturday February 13, 2021 is the second day of Xinchou—Year of Ox—in Chinese lunar calendar. It encourages sacrificial ceremonies, rituals of making New Year wishes, and social events. Fou Gallery sincerely invites you to participate in our New Year Event, in conjunction with our current exhibition Anne Muntges: The Glowing Desert.

By drawing countless lines, Muntges recreates portions of the daily environments she inhabits and blends sensations between two-dimensional and three-dimensional worlds. In Fou Gallery, she builds an interactive black and white world that functions as a living and breathing drawing. For Chinese Lunar New Year, Muntges designs special wall tiles with hand drawn black borders, inviting audiences from all over the world to write down New Year wishes and build a wishing wall together. The artist will be present to communicate with visitors.

The event is registered by appointment only to maintain social distance. Only 8 visitors are allowed every hour. Masks and shoe covers are required to enter the gallery.

If you can not attend the event in person, you can also submit your wish below. We’ll write it down for you, put your wish onto the wall, and send you a photo of it.
