New York - Fou Gallery is delighted to invite you to our online Pranayam Workshop on Saturday, Sept. 19th, responding to our first exhibition since the COVID-19 pandemic, Shuling Guo: 5—6 pm. In a tranquil and almost spiritual atmosphere created by Guo’s paintings, participants will join a combined meditation and pranayam session led by Dr. Pralhad Ron and Dr. Nitin Ron, father and son. Through this practice, participants will have the possibility to clear the mind, concentrate on presence, and reconnect with one’s higher self.

Inspired by Guo’s 5—6 pm and Skin series, Dr. Pralhad Ron and Dr. Nitin Ron will lead a guided meditation and pranayam practice, and explain the neuroscience behind meditation and mindfulness. Pranayam is an effort in the art of Yoga to control one’s breath, which is an important link between the mind and body. In this way, one can regulate how oxygen enters the bloodstream, energize both body and mind, and eventually control prana, the vital life energy. Pranayam helps one connect with the inner aspects of their physiology. It is an attempt to use the energy from pranayam to break cycles of stress and reach a higher level of peacefulness. What pranayam is looking for corresponds to the essence of Guo’s works—a sense of emptiness and limitless imagination. Pranayam is as much an art as it is a science.

For safety concerns, the number of participants in the gallery will be limited to 10. We’ll host a Zoom live stream and make this session available for more participants to have a meditation and pranayam experience at home.

纽约 - 否画廊诚挚邀请您参加《瑜伽调息》工作坊。本次活动将在九月十九日(周六)举行,并与否画廊自疫情以来重开后的首个展览《郭淑玲:5—6 pm》相互呼应。在郭淑玲画作营造出的宁静而近乎属灵的氛围中,参与者将会跟随Pralhad Ron博士和Nitin Ron博士,一同进行冥想和瑜伽调息练习,理清思绪,专注于当下,与高我连接。

Pralhad Ron博士和Nitin Ron博士受到郭淑玲《5—6pm》和《皮肤》系列作品的启发,将带领参与者走近冥想和调息,理解瑜伽调息背后的神经科学原理。调息法是一种瑜伽艺术中控制呼吸的方式。呼吸是身心之间的重要纽带,通过这种方式,人们可以调节氧气如何进入血液,为身心提供能量,并达到控制呼吸或生命能量的目的。调息法帮助人们建立一种与生理机能的内在的联系。这种方法使用来自呼吸道的能量来打破压力负循环,去感受一种高层次的宁静。 瑜伽调息所寻找的内在与郭淑玲作品的精髓相呼应—一种空性、虚无和无限的想象空间。呼吸法既是一门艺术,又是一门科学。

出于安全考虑,到场的参加人数限于10人,并已报满。但是本次活动会以Zoom直播的方式对参与者开放,让更多人在家也能拥有一次冥想和瑜伽调息体验。


Instructor: Dr. Pralhad Ron

Dr. Pralhad Ron is an internationally renowned atomic scientist and yoga teacher. He has co-authored a science book Foundations of Pulsed Power Technology (Wiley-IEEE Press, 2017). He was involved in research programs at Queen Mary College in London, National Research Council in Canada, and McGill University in Canada, and has a large number of international publications in scientific journals. He became a yoga teacher in 1978 and has conducted yoga (asana, pranayam, and meditation) workshops in India and the U.S.A. His research demonstrated that employees practicing yoga would have fewer conflicts and enhanced performance at the workplace. He has innovated several breathing practices and field-tested their effectiveness for positive health maintenance as well as the treatment of health disorders. He has also scientifically analyzed the effects of asana, pranayam, and meditation on body, mind, and psyche.

Instructor: Dr. Nitin Ron

Dr. Nitin Ron is the Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Assistant Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at NYP Brooklyn Methodist Hospital and the Chairman of the Physician Health Committee. With his strong passion for the neuroscience of meditation, he has been leading a research project about the effect of meditation and pranayam in adapting the human body to high altitude. He himself also loves high altitude hiking and mountaineering.

He has given various talks and workshops about the neuroscience of mindfulness and meditation, including 3 TEDx talks, a talk at the National Institute of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, and the inaugural speech of the 2016 NYC Imagine Science Film Festival.

Dr. Pralhad Ron and Dr. Nitin Ron have recently co-authored a book titled Pranayam: Breathing Techniques for Health, Healing, and Tranquility.
