New York - Fou Gallery sincerely invites you to join special sound healing workshops with Himalayan singing bowls  on the occasion of Renqian Yang’s solo exhibition Sounds of the Ephemeral.

Renqian Yang’s research in human emotions began in 2008 when she volunteered in art therapy service during the Sichuan earthquake. Her latest series of works were conceived during quarantine in COVID-19 to discover and capture subtle and undefined emotions that are subjectively intimate but collectively comprehensible. Yang touches commonly-shared basic feelings by working on the material ceramic and painting as the medium and colors as the method. To enhance the exhibition experience, we invite sound healing practitioner Greg Rills to conduct two workshops at the closing week of Yang’s exhibition.

Sound has been utilized in various cultures for thousands of years as a tool for healing. We can see sound healing in the use of mantras as with the Hindus, the icaros of various Indigenous peoples from Central and South America, or singing bowls used in some Buddhist religious practices. Sound synchronizes our fluctuating brainwaves by providing a stable frequency which the brainwave can attune to and helps create the pathway to this place of stillness in meditation. These various techniques all have the same intention: to move us from a place of imbalance to a place of balance.

In the workshops, we’ll experience sound meditation with Himalayan singing bowls. Greg will use 7 bowls that are tuned to the vibrational frequency of each of our 7 chakras. The bowls are used in healing the mental-emotional stress that we all go through at some point in our lives, particularly during the pandemic and great uncertainty in our lives. We sincerely hope this event can help promote relaxation and offer powerful healing properties to all participants.

The event is registered by appointment. For each workshop only 15 visitors are allowed in the space. Masks are encouraged during the workshop.
