LAN ZHAOXING (b. 1977, Shanxi China)

Lan Zhaoxing studied Sculpture at Academy of Fine Art of Shanxi University from 1997 to 2001. After graduation, she followed her parents’ arrangement to work in the military. Lan worked in the military for about 10 years, first at an institution isolated in mountains and then an army aviation corps on the edge of a county-level city. From 2006 to 2008, she spent two years in the Oil Painting postgraduate program of the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts while still serving in the army. In 2011, She left the army at the battalion level and has been an independent artist ever since. In 2017, she had her first solo exhibition at Tong Gallery+Projects (Beijing).

Lan Zhaoxing believes that art is philosophical, eternal and tragical, depicting a universal human condition. She attempts to use the language of painting to express the philosophical realms of metaphysics and spirituality. In her works, she chooses the elements from the two mutable worlds of nature and self, and gives them color and form, trying to make emotional response and intellectual thinking logically consistent. Lan pursues a painting language between naturalism and abstraction, attempting to give clarity and balance to order, with both beating musicality and architecturally eternity.

兰昭形（b. 1977，中国山西原平）

1997年至2001年就读于山西大学美术学院雕塑专业，毕业后听从父母安排进入军队工作，先后在一个封闭的山中培训机构和位置在一个县级市城市边缘的陆军航空兵团工作，从事政治工作将近十年，06到08年期间带薪在天津美术学院油画研究生班学习两年，于2011年正营级离开军队，此后基本从事独立艺术创作。2017年她在Tong Gallery+Projects（北京）举办首次个展《野火》。

兰昭形认为艺术是具有哲学性的，永恒而充满悲剧性，描绘一种普遍的人类处境。她试图用绘画语言来表述形而上学和精神性的哲学领域。她从自然和自我这两个可变的世界中选择需要的作品要素，并赋予了色彩和形式，努力使感性反应和知性思考具有逻辑一致性。她追求一种介于自然主义和抽象艺术之间的绘画语言，试图赋予明晰和平衡的秩序性，既有跳动的音乐性，又有建筑般的永恒。
