Shuling Guo: Boat Life & Art Life

New York - Fou Gallery is delighted to invite you to participate in our online Artist’s Talk: Boat Life & Art Life by Shuling Guo on Saturday, Sep. 26, 11:00 am–12:30 pm EDT.

Every year, Shuling Guo spends a lot of time living on a sailboat, observes and paints the subtle light and colors mixed by nature. Being far away from the hustle and bustle, she is able to reflect and meditate thoroughly on her inner spirit, naturally fertilizing her life and creation with growing authenticity as time goes by. This September, she travelled to Annapolis, a sailing capital of North America. On Saturday 26th, Guo will connect to the curator Lynn Hai at Fou Gallery from her boat, to have a conversation on the artworks in her solo exhibition 5–6 pm, and her life and creation on the boat. 

After a short introduction to the boat, some sailing knowledge and the sailing plan of this winter, Shuling Guo will share the splendid and peaceful sceneries in her trip, and how the calm but ever-changing environment on the sea has influenced her perception of the world. Surrounded by incredible vastness and emptiness, she is able to immerse herself in natural vicissitudes of pure light and colors. Far away from the disturbances of the mundane for long, she is able to sublimate her perspectives to cognize the world, and accomplishes her paintings in a way that straightforwardly reflects the spiritual essence she perceives . 

This event will be available on Zoom live stream to showcase both the exhibition at the gallery and Shuling Guo’s current environment on the boat. From the summer to the fall, only Shuling Guo’s works have frozen the ephemeral beauty of the fleeting colors in nature. We hope her life and pursuit will bring calmness and peacefulness to you.

每年，郭淑玲都有许多时间居住于船上，对自然界奇妙的光与色彩的演变进行观察和创作。远离人群的状态令她能够更好地内观和冥想，使她的状态随着时间流逝愈加纯粹简朴，创作也更加洗练通透。今年九月，她航行至北美航海中心之一的Annapolis. 二十六日周六，郭淑玲将从船上连线对话否画廊策展人海良，谈论她当前正在画廊举办的个展《5–6 pm》，以及她在船上的创作和生活。

郭淑玲将简要介绍帆船、航海知识以及她今冬的航海计划。之后，她将分享途中所见的优美景色，以及海上多变而又平静的环境如何影响她对世界的感知。被广阔而空灵的海上空间所包围，她沉浸于光与色的自然变迁。而长时间远离世俗纷扰，她得以不断提升自己对世界的认知，并以更加接近灵魂本质的方式去创作。
