CHEN DONGFAN (b.1982, Shandong, China)
Dongfan Chen obtained his B.F.A. in Experimental Art from the China Academy of Art, Hangzhou in 2008. He currently lives and works in New York and Hangzhou. Chen’s work has continued to exhibit in the U.S.A. and China, and he has been actively participated in various public art projects in Hangzhou, China and Athens, Greece. His recent exhibitions include: Punk Bookstore, Square Peg Gallery, New York (2016); Child Wants to be a King not an Artist, Inna Art Space, Hangzhou (2016). Dongfan described his work as "not about dreams, but rather a kind of reality, a kind of memory, a mental world, the intersection between sensation and illusion, which requires time to find a way in." He is interested in how images are transmitted over time and what are the information and the sensations people received through transmission; nevertheless, he still pays special attention to the materialistic aspect of paintings, experimenting with the texture through layers of paint and welcoming diverse outcomes of it.
