Support & Financials
Fou Residency is free of charge. We provide: A private home and studio space in Tulum; Access to nature, healing tools, and local contacts; Filtered drinking water upon arrival.
No Residency Fee: There is no application or residency fee.
Travel & Utilities: Residents are responsible for covering their own travel expenses and electricity usage during the stay (approximately MXN 400/month depending on use). Electricity payments must be made locally at OXXO and help encourage energy-conscious living. (See Q&A section for the reasoning of electricity usage)
Filtered Drinking Water: Basic filtered water is provided. Residents are responsible for refilling during their stay.
Stipend (Optional & Limited):
We are actively seeking individual sponsors and organizational partners to provide a USD $500 stipend for each residency session.
If selected to receive the stipend, the resident artist agrees to: Leave one piece of work—any medium or format—as a courtesy to the sponsor and the residency archive. Credit the sponsor, Fou Residency, and its collaborators when presenting work developed during the residency, when appropriate.
Living Conditions
The house has electricity and Wi-Fi, though the internet can be unstable due to Tulum’s unique infrastructure challenges — the town is rapidly growing but still developing reliable internet networks, especially in more remote or nature-surrounded areas.
Tap water is not drinkable; filtered water is provided at the start, and residents must arrange refills. Please do not flush toilet paper or any objects down the toilet; use the provided bin.
Residents are asked to respect the land, use water and energy mindfully, and maintain cleanliness in shared spaces.
Amenities include: Rooftop swimming pool overlooking the jungle canopy; Jungle yoga space for daily practice and meditation; Jungle gym for physical wellness; An animal park featuring local fauna; An outdoor cinema for film screenings under the stars; Dedicated concierge service to assist residents with local needs and logistics. The building offers 24-hour concierge service to assist with any immediate needs, and the residency house is supported by dedicated on-call staff to handle maintenance or repairs as needed during your stay.
