How to Apply

This residency program is currently by invitation only. The artists were recommended by the management team and the advisory board. We may consider starting an open call in 2026.

Residency Commitments

Residents are expected to:

  • Engage deeply with their personal practice during their stay, in alignment with the residency’s focus on nature, indigenous knowledge, ecological consciousness, and inner transformation.

  • Respect the local environment, community, and cultural context.

  • Contribute to the ongoing growth of the residency by leaving one piece of work—in any format or medium—to share with future residents and to become part of the evolving creative archive of the program.

  • If selected to receive a USD $500 stipend (pending availability through individual or organizational sponsorship), the resident agrees to provide the aforementioned work as a courtesy to the sponsor, and to credit the sponsor in future presentations or publications of the work, when appropriate.

  • When applicable, credit the Fou Residency, the sponsor and its partner organizations and sponsors when exhibiting or publishing works developed in whole or in part during the residency.

  • If engaging in community workshops or collaborative activities (optional), residents are encouraged to document the process and outcomes to contribute to the collective knowledge and shared learning of the residency network.

Selection Criteria

We are looking for applicants who demonstrate:

  • A self-motivated creative or research practice;

  • A spirit of humility, curiosity, and respect for community and place;

  • Willingness to live simply and mindfully in a tropical setting;

  • We especially encourage applications from artists, healers, and thinkers of the Asian diaspora and those working across cultures and disciplines.
