Cone Shaped Cup by Chang Liu

$36.00

Cone Shaped Cups by Chang Liu explore the expressive possibilities of clay, surface, and form through a restrained yet dynamic design. Handcrafted from dark clay, each cup features a sharply tapered silhouette that widens toward the rim, creating a balanced form that feels both sturdy and refined. A brushed white slip is applied across the surface in sweeping gestures, allowing the darker clay body to emerge beneath in textured layers and irregular patterns. These spontaneous surface qualities evoke weathered stone, shifting landscapes, or traces left by wind and water. Subtle differences in pattern and texture ensure that each cup possesses its own distinct character.

Chang Liu is a San Francisco based ceramist. In her work, the familiar mountains and beloved landscapes of her childhood are reinterpreted on clay, transformed into vessels that carry both memory and quiet echoes of the past. Each piece is wheel-thrown, hand altered and layered with glazes that invite interactions between color, gravity, and texture.
