*Whether planning a birthday celebration, an intimate bridal gathering, or a creative team offsite, our private Wagashi workshop provides exclusive access to the gallery space with personalized pacing.
Private classes are available for groups up to 12 participants. After booking, the gallery will be in touch to arrange a time that works best for you and the instructor.
Wagashi (和菓子) represents the harmony of nature, seasonality, and mindfulness. In this private session, your group will work with Nerikiri—a delicate, malleable dough crafted from sweetened white bean paste and rice flour.
Artisan Guidance: Learn traditional shaping, color-blending, and sculpting techniques using custom wooden tools like the sankakubō (triangular shaping stick) and fine bamboo sieves.
Seasonal Themes: Handcraft three to four distinct confections inspired by natural motifs or your own branding/special occassions, from spring cherry blossoms to autumn foliage.
Fresh Tea Pairing: Savor your creations alongside freshly prepared tea, served in handcrafted glass ware.
Keepsake Presentation: Package your handcrafted confections in elegant gift boxes to take home.
Instructor
Oshiriai Wagashi Studio is a New York-based wagashi atelier founded in 2023 by Xinxin He, a dedicated confectionery artist trained in the Ika-ryu school of Japanese wagashi. After beginning her journey in modern wagashi under Lai Xuanni in 2021, Xinxin became an apprentice to renowned master Junichi Mitsubori—founder of Ika-ryu and third-generation heir of the IZUMIYA brand—whose artistry has been recognized by institutions such as Asia Society and the Japanese Consulate in New York. At Oshiriai Studio, Xinxin carries forward the refined techniques of the Ika-ryu tradition while developing her own signature style, characterized by subtle flavors, refined textures, and sculptural beauty.
